Asian Heritage Month | Hsiao-Tsui (Jade) Liu’s Story
I am American Chinese, born in Taipei, Taiwan where my father was stationed in the US Army. I came to the US when I was two years old and lived in Honolulu, Hawaii before moving to the Mainland in the 70’s. Before I came to Bellingham, WA, I worked for Corporate America in New York City. I had an office at One World Trade Center, 61st Floor where I began my career as an Executive Receptionist and over time, rose thru the ranks to become database manager for Learning & Development at a top Wall Street Firm. After 9/11 I switched to the retail side of the biz and was office manager for a flagship branch of 150+ employees in the historical Lipstick Building in Midtown Manhattan.
I have been in the holistic health care field for over 30 years as a Life Skills Coach and Healing Arts Practitioner. I taught self-care through yoga, meditation and mindfulness practices, and organizational skills to help clients stay on track, find their purpose, and awaken to their true potential. After moving out west in 2010 I opened a yoga studio in Fairhaven (Bellingham) for three years. I became interested in learning more about the Western model of Healthcare so I attended Bellingham Technical College and got my assistant nursing certificate. I became a registered CNA and caregiver for 5 years in Whatcom County, that was an eye-opening experience. I am blessed to be using previous skills and experience in an environment that contributes to the health of my community and provides support and care for our most vulnerable population. I feel blessed to be part of the Eden Family, to have found my niche in the office again, and to have meaningful employment in my senior years that bring me joy and satisfaction.
Jade, your story is truly touched my heart. You have such such broad and impressive life and work experience yet humbling. I’m so happy that you shared and are part of our healthcare family.
Thank you so much for all your office support.
